Hitchin Wedding Photographer / A hot summers day at Oughtonhead common

Hi everyone, this afternoon I would like to share with you some Hitchin wedding photography from Vicky and Paul’s pre wedding shoot in the Hertfordshire countryside. It was a beautiful summers day in the middle of the amazing heat wave that we had last year, and whilst it may look like we headed to the Everglades in some of the photographs it is actually the very picturesque Oughtonhead common just outside Hitchin.

Although I live in Lancashire now I grew up in Hitchin, until I headed up North to go to University and ended up staying. All my family still live there so I am always heading down with the kids to visit everyone, often staying the week in the holidays and I am very lucky that I still get to shoot weddings in this pretty part of the world. 

Vicky and Paul booked me to be their wedding photographer after my dad had been chatting to Vicky’s mum about their wedding at the school they both worked at. Go dad…thanks for the big up!! We had chatted on the phone but only met up the week before their big day for their engagement shoot at Oughtonhead common, a pretty nature reserve by the river on the outskirts of the town. I spent many a happy hour when I was younger riding my horse through the nature reserve so I knew it would make a great location for some pretty pictures.  It was a hot summers day so I met the couple in the late afternoon when the harsh midday summers sun was a bit gentler. Vicky looked gorgeous in her summery blue dress and the couple were so lovely it felt like we had been friends for ages as we took a stroll and chatted about their wedding which was taking place the next week at Hitchin Priory.

I really like meeting up with my couples for an engagement shoot before the wedding as it is nice to get to know them before the big day and have some fun.
